From Hell’s Kitchen, not Sloane Square.

“The only crown we wore was sweat.”

Sloane Rangers were born in a seedy midtown YMCA and raised in the basement clubs of lower Manhattan. Formed in 1987 at the School of Visual Arts, the art-school power trio fused folk guitars, post-punk rhythm, and lyrical sarcasm into a sound that landed somewhere between R.E.M., Fugazi, and Firehose.

Known for fierce, high-energy live shows and a loyal fan base, the band’s sound was equally at home in the art-punk grit of CBGBs and the wider rock rooms of The Ritz and beyond.

Their debut album From the From (Invert Records, 1990) drew critical praise and regional radio airplay across the U.S. and Canada. Follow-up Scram (1991), produced by Mark Spencer of Son Volt, further elevated their reputation, leading to high-profile live dates with Bob Mould, Grant Hart, Lemonheads, Miracle Legion, Blues Traveler, Spin Doctors, Meat Puppets, and many more.

The band’s sound — at once driving, dynamic, and literate — was anchored by the interplay between Robert Brochu’s acoustic-driven guitar work, Bryan Hynes’ melodic bass and vocals, and Patrick Seacor’s inventive rhythms.

Drummer Patrick Seacor would later gain global prominence as Paddy Boom, founding drummer of Scissor Sisters, and collaborate with legendary artists including Elton John, the B-52s, Fred Schneider, Franz Ferdinand, and Carlos Alomar.
